Not long ago, Hunter Renfrow was a 1,000-yard wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders when he earned his first and only Pro Bowl nod in 2021. That performance led to him earning a sizeable contract extension from the team.

But things went south after that and Renfrow tallied just 585 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 27 games over the next two seasons. That led to the Raiders releasing him last March, and Renfrow did not latch on with another team the entire season.

On Wednesday, an X account called “@nflrums” tweeted that Renfrow was retiring from the NFL after not playing last season. However, Renfrow quickly responded, dispelling the rumor entirely.

“Just when I thought about making a comeback I get hit with this bombshell,” he said. “Guess I shouldn’t have started working out again 2 months ago lol.”

A slot specialist, Renfrow should draw interest from teams on the open market.

He’s still just 29 years old and is a former 1,000-yard receiver who can make a significant impact. He’s the very definition of a low-risk, high-reward option for teams to explore.

One team that is in the market for a wide receiver is the Raiders, who could use a slot receiver to fill the role when tight end Brock Bowers isn’t lining up there.

It remains to be seen if the two sides would be interested in a reunion, but it’s possible the Raiders consider Renfrow with their need.
